Malden's fire chief is warning to think twice before setting off those fireworks.
Chief Charlie Cooper says our recent drought conditions make setting off fireworks a dangerous thing to do.
Cooper says the slightest little spark can ignite a pretty big blaze. And that can quickly spread to nearby homes and businesses.
"We probably got a quarter inch of rain the last two or three months and the grass is just dead," said Cooper.
"You walk across the grass and it just crunches. It wouldn't take but just a spark. You could probably throw a cigarette out and it would catch on fire."
Chief Cooper says so far he's only had two firework related fires but he says he anticipates his department will be extremely busy between now and July fourth.
