Mark Twain National Forest Public Information Officer Bill Paxton says firefighters have completed mop-up work on the East End and Madison wildfires.
Paxton says both fires are 100 percent contained, and the danger of fire escaping containment lines has been greatly reduced. He says both fires will remain in patrol status for the next few days.
The 622-acre East End Fire was about 6 miles east of Bixby, Mo. The 48-acre Madison Fire was located just west of Higdon, Mo., about 7 miles north and east of Fredericktown, Mo.
According to Paxton, the Eastern Area Type 2 Incident Management Team will transfer management of both wildfires back to Mark Twain National Forest tomorrow. Some firefighting resources will be released back to their home stations throughout today. Other resources will remain, distributed across Mark Twain National Forest to help address any futures wildfire starts.
Paxton says drought and higher than normal temperatures are affecting much of the state, resulting in above normal significant fire potential. These conditions are expected to continue through mid-summer. These conditions have the Forest on high alert for new wildfire starts.
The public is cautioned to be extremely careful with fires on this 4th of July holiday. Discarded cigarettes or matches, fireworks, or flying embers from a campfire or grill, can start a wildfire. Paxton says there is a 90 to 100 percent probability for ignition.

A New Jersey company that operates 13 TGI Fridays restaurants accused of secretly replacing premium liquor with low-quality booze says it's shocked at the allegations.
At one bar, a mixture that included rubbing alcohol and caramel coloring was sold as scotch. In another, premium liquor bottles were refilled with water - and apparently not even clean water at that.
