JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

Boaters at Kinkaid Lake were well aware of the tragic deaths in Missouri and Tennessee the past few days.

Mitzie McBride has been boating for 25+ years and it has never happened to her before.

"It was terrifying for me," said McBride.

Her 12-year-old granddaughter was shocked and burned because of a problem with the boat.

"When she stepped down, that's when she got shocked," said McBride. "We had a faulty plug going into the house boat which is what caused the problem."

Mac McDonlad owns Kinkaid Lake Marina.

"Nine out of ten times it's the boat that caused the problem," said McDonald.

In his 17 years, he's had two electrical problems. Both were with his customer's boats. But with the recent deaths of two young children at Lake of the Ozarks, a problem could start with a dock.

"All these boats have to have air conditioning on them or otherwise you would die inside of them sitting out in this hot sun," said McDonald. "So you got to have electrical configurations and everything else."

Electricity is something Mitzie McBride doesn't take any chances with.

"My husband went and bought four new electrical gages and they found the problem in the actual plug that goes into the boat from the power," said McBride.
