Lea Anne and Jim Casteel, owners of Hunter Valley Winery, say the drought and heat is good and bad news for their crop.
"The early ripening grapes really look good this year and will be ready to pick in a couple weeks," said Lea Anne. "The extreme heat is keeping some of the grapes slightly smaller than normal and even drying some out, but these grapes will still make a good wine. We will just have less of it."
Lea Anne and Jim say the past two summers have been dry in their vineyards in Cape Girardeau County.
Lea Anne says sometimes this makes white wine have more of an amber color.
Jim says he is hoping for 90 degrees and no rain in the next couple of weeks for the perfect harvest.
