CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS) -

A Charleston man faces several charges after the sheriff says he rammed a police car three times.

Jeffrey Curtis Riley, Jr., 28, is charged with two counts of first degree assault of a law enforcement officer, possession of a controlled substance, first degree property damage, resisting arrest, tampering with physical evidence, and a parole warrant.

Mississippi County Sheriff's deputies were called to investigate suspected drug activity at 4 a.m. on July 10.

Deputies found Riley Jr. asleep behind the wheel of an SUV with several white plastic bags with a white substance in the baggies in plain view.

Riley woke up, realized the deputies were at his SUV and sped off. Deputies were able to move the patrol car out of the way of the speeding SUV. Riley drove his SUV at a high rate of speed across a ditch and driveway to intentionally hit the officers and their patrol car, according to the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department. Riley hit the car on the driver's side and the impact sent the deputies across the vehicle, according to the sheriff's department.

Riley backed up his SUV, sped up again and rammed the patrol unit again.

A deputy fired at the SUV trying to disable it.

Riley hit the patrol unit a third time and drove away with deputies in pursuit.

Riley was stopped near Highway 105 and was arrested.

Riley, Jr. was taken to the Department of Corrections.

Mississippi County Sheriff Keith Moore says Riley is already going through the court system for similar drug and assault of a law enforcement officer charges.

Riley is set to go to trial in September on a 2010 arson charge after a rental home went up in flames.
