MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -
A Marshall County man is suspected of stealing more than 200 pounds of copper tubing from his employer and a utility trailer.
Zachary L. Wilson, 26, of Marshall County is charged with two counts of receiving stolen property over $500.
The investigation began on July 11 when Wilson took a 16' utility trailer with other pieces of equipment to a local scrap yard. Detectives suspected the trailer was stolen, but it had not been discovered missing by the owner yet. Detectives located the owner of the trailer and found it had been parked at the Paducah Middle School construction site.
Then, the next day Wilson cashed in about 220 pounds of scrap steel at the same scrap yard. On July 16, cashed in 111 pounds of copper tubing. Detectives suspected the items were stolen, but had not yet found the rightful owner of the scrap or copper.
Then on July 17, detectives found Wilson arriving at the scrap yard again with about 68 pounds of additional new copper tubing.
Wilson admitted to stealing the trailer from the Paducah Middle School construction site on July 11 and taking what detectives estimate to be about 200 pounds of copper tubing from his employer, according to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department.
Wilson was taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail.
