ALEXANDER COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

Thirty minimum security inmates were moved from Tamms to the Hardin County Work Camp Thursday morning.

According to Stacey Solano with the Illinois Department of Corrections, the department is progressing with the closure process at Tamms.

Solano says dozens of minimum security inmates are left at Tamms and will be transferred in the coming weeks.

Solano says dozens more minimum security inmates housed here will be transferred in the coming weeks.

"We haven't seen any movement and then they take a bus out," said Lt. Patrick Trokey, a correctional officer at Tamms. "It's definitely raising concerns for staff. Everyone held out hope they would come to their senses before this happened. But apparently, that's not the case."

The guards say they've already seen an increase in violence among inmates since the announcement of Tamms' pending closure.

They say moving those supermax inmates to other facilities around the state will pose a danger to staff and other inmates.

There is no timeline as to when these inmates will be transferred and no word on where the maximum security inmates will go.
