Mt. Vernon man sentenced to 20 years for burglary

MOUNT VERNON, IL (KFVS) -

A Jefferson County man has been sentenced to prison time for a string of burglaries dating back to 2009.

Robert E. Winston of Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty on July 31 to eight counts of burglary and was sentenced to serve a prison term of 20 years.

The incidents occurred between December 2009 and February 2010.

Winston admitted to burglarizing several businesses in Mt. Vernon including a laundromat, fitness center, car washes, a coffee shop and a newspaper office.

According to the state's attorney, he was arrested and formally charged on February 3, 2010.

He was also ordered to pay court costs and restitution to the victims.

The state's attorney says Winston had previously served a prison term for burglary.
