SENATH, MO (KFVS) -
Police say a Senath man is facing theft and child endangerment charges.
Sidney Dean Harris, 27, of Senath, Mo., formerly of Arizona, has been charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree, and one count of theft of a motor vehicle.
According to Senath Police Chief Omar Karnes, the charges stem from a tip to the Senath police department, who then contacted the Missouri Child Abuse Center via hotline.
One child was taken to a Kennett hospital for an exam.
According to Karnes, the child was asked about the red burned circle on his butt cheeks, thechild told authorities that Harris had been mad at him, called him names and burned him with a cigarette lighter.
Harris was being held on a $ 50,000 cash only bond on the child endangerment charge and $25,000 on the theft charge.
Two children were placed in protective custody with family services.
The
boy's mother vanished three years ago and the chief says Harris has not been
ruled out as a suspect in her disappearance.
Harris is scheduled to make a court appearance on September 5.
