EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
An overnight burglary of McDonalds is odd, not just because of what was taken, but because of how the suspect was found. Instead of leaving with some higher priced loot, this guy chose from the value menu.
Early Monday morning, police were called to the McDonalds on Old Business 41 in Evansville in reference to a possible break in.
When employees arrived for work, that morning, they found both doors on the south side of the building had been broken out and a large landscaping rock was laying on the floor inside.
Officers watched the security video which showed a man break in around 2:30 in the morning.
The burglar first tried to take one of the cash registers, but was unsuccessful. He then grabbed several yogurt parfaits out of a refrigerator before running out of the building.
"Loads up an arm full of the yogurt parfaits and heads for the door," said EPD Sgt. Jason Cullum.
No golden nuggets, only $5 worth of yogurt.
One of the officers on the scene believed he recognized the burglar as a man named Christopher McGlauflin. He had a run in with McGlauflin the previous night, and believed he could have been in the area.
Detectives pulled up a picture and agreed that there was a strong resemblance to the man in the security video.
At this point, something very strange happened.
McGauflin walked by the front of the store.
The detective approached him and put him in handcuffs.
Officers say that McGlauflin was covered in pieces of glass that appeared to be from the broken windows on the doors. He also had cuts on the back of his neck.
He was arrested and taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail on the charges of burglary, theft, and criminal mischief.
