MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

Deputies say a Paducah, Kentucky man has been charged with making meth for a second time.

James E. Sears Jr., 32, of Paducah was charged Friday with manufacturing methamphetamine 2nd Offense ( A Class "A" felony, punishable by 20 years to life in prison), possession of methamphetamine (A class "D" felony, punishable by 1 – 5 years), and possession of drug paraphernalia (A Class "A" misdemeanor, punishable by up to 365 days in jail).

During an investigation, detectives say Sears had purchased Sudafed at a local pharmacy. Detectives then saw him drive to a local hardware store where a detective watched him buy lithium batteries, which are used to make methamphetamine.

Sears then went to another local store where a detective saw him looking at drain cleaner which is another meth component.

After a stopping Sears' truck, detectives say they found the lithium batteries he bought as well as a quantity of Sudafed.

A search was then made of Sears' home with the assistance of the Paducah Police Department. Inside the home, detectives say they found more meth manufacturing items, a quantity of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a small quantity of marijuana.

Sears is currently on Parole for a prior methamphetamine charge and was charged on Friday with manufacturing methamphetamine 2nd Offense.

He was taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail.
