PARK HILLS, MO (KFVS) -
Crews were battling brush fire near Highway 67 on Saturday afternoon between Desloge and Park Hills, Missouri.
According to the St. Francois County Sheriff's Office Dispatch, the fire could have caused visibility issues for drivers.
The fire was near the Parkway Dr. exit.
MoDOT said around 5 p.m. Saturday, the northbound lanes of 67 was reduced in that area of the fire due to the fire trucks needing space to fight the fire. But there were no visibility issues at that time.
The fire started in a ravine on the northbound side of Highway 67.
Fifteen departments from Saint Francois and Iron County helped out fighting the fire.
According to Chief Serini, It was a 10-15
acre fire and the ravine was very rocky with big boulders and very treacherous
grounds with a lot of obstacles they had to get around.
Fire fighters had to actually
move boulders and other things that were in the way just to spray down and put
out the fire.
Chief Serini said it took a long time because they had to be extremely
careful. Fire fighters were getting hot and had to be given extra breaks.
The community also came out and helped crews.
McDonalds and Burger King supplied food for
the fire fighters and Walmart supplied water to crews.
An ambulance was on hand to keep watch on the fire fighters, and keep water supplies full.
Hours after fighting the fire, crews had the ground
saturated so it wouldn't re ignite.
