MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) -

On southern Illinois waterways Saturday, fishermen showed off their big catch of Asian Carp.

It was for the first Carp-A-Thon hosted by St. Andrew School in Murphysboro, the SIU Fisheries Society and the Bow Fishing Association Of Southern Illinois.

Anglers fished for the invasive species by bow, net, and traditional methods.

Organizers say the turnout was low for the event, feeling that low river levels and water levels are too blame.

However, participants say it was a decent day for fishing.

Organizers say the goal of the event is to raise awareness about the invasive Asian Carp in local waterways and to raise money for Saint Andrew School.

Carp brought in will be turned into livestock feed.
