PEMISCOT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

A judge ruled there was enough evidence for the case against a man charged in the death of a Caruthersville police officer to move forward.

Deonta Williamson is charged with first degree murder in connection with the deadly wreck.

Investigators say Williamson killed Officer Evan Burns in August 2011, when he crashed a stolen SUV into Burns' police cruiser.

Prosecutors say Williamson was fleeing from police when Burns and another officer set up their cruisers as road blocks.

They say Williamson then crashed into Burns' unit, killing the officer.

Williamson also allegedly injured another Caruthersville police officer in that crash.

Williamson's parents say he suffers from mental illness.

He is due back in court on Oct. 2.
