CARUTHERSVILLE, MO (KFVS) -

Police arrested a Caruthersville woman saying she assaulted her boyfriend with a hammer and a ceramic mug.

Maria Ann Parnell is charged with domestic assault 1st and unlawful use of a weapon.

Caruthersville Police Chief Tony Jones says officers were called to 941 Madison Street for a domestic dispute on Aug. 4.

Parnell met officers at the front door crying and in a panicked state. Jones says Parnell told officers she was assaulted by her boyfriend who put his hands around her neck.

Officers found the man nearly unconscious on a bed with a huge knot on his head. He was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

Jones says both Parnell and her boyfriend were intoxicated.

Parnell was taken to the Pemiscot County Jail.

New federal regulations have changed what many kids who attend public schools eat for lunch at school. However, some area private schools don't have to follow those rules and have come up with their own new school lunch program.
