A man is charged with distributing a controlled substance after a teen was found unresponsive and died two days later.

Justin R. Bales, 27, is charged with delivery of controlled substance.

Police in Ironton say a heroin overdose is suspected in the death of 18-year-old Vanna Barton.

She was found unresponsive in one of the rooms at the Shepard Mountain Inn in Pilot Knob on July 20, according to Coroner Tony Cole.

Barton's boyfriend told police Bales came to the Shepherd Mountain Inn room 43 where he and his girlfriend were staying and injected a syringe of heroin into Barton's left hand on July 19, 2012.

Autopsy results on Barton have not been released.

Bales is due in court on Wednesday, Aug. 15 for a preliminary hearing.
