A fire in Oran destroyed a 2-story house on Tuesday morning. According to the Oran Fire Department, it happened at 4:05 a.m. at 907 highway W, which is right in the middle of town. Firefighters
No one was living in the home at the time of the time. Fire crews tell Heartland News that the family had just moved out.

METROPOLIS, IL (KFVS) -
An ex-employee of the city of Metropolis is accused of stealing gas from the city.
A Metropolis officer saw a white van pull out of the parking lot where the city gas pumps are located and drive the wrong way down a one way street on North Avenue at 3:38 a.m. on Wednesday.
Police say the driver failed to stop for a stop sign on 8th Street and Ferry Street.
As the van turned onto 7th Street, police say the driver threw a gas can out the window.
When the van did stop, the officer found two more gas cans in the van.
The police department had received
previous reports of a white van pumping gas from the city pumps.
Police say the driver had
just stolen 14.9 gallons of gasoline, and was in possession of a key to the
pumps.
Frederick D Nackley, 43, of Joppa is an ex-employee (summer temp) of the City of Metropolis.
He is charged with a felony count of theft
of government property, driving the wrong way down a one way street and
disobeying a stop sign.
Nackley was taken to the Massac
County Detention
Center.
Chief of Police Harry Masse says he
hopes this sends a strong and clear message that they will not tolerate anybody
stealing resources paid for by the taxpayer.
