IRONTON, MO (KFVS) -

Questions still surround the death of an Iron County teenager as one of the last people to see her alive made a court appearance on Wednesday.

It's a story we've followed since late July. Authorities say Vanna Barton may have died from a heroin overdose.

Tuesday we learned Justin Bales is accused of injecting Barton with heroin just before her death.

Underlying allegations involving death was the theme among attorneys on both sides as bales went before the judge in Iron County.

Right now he faces drug charges only.

Bales made his way into the courthouse on charges of manufacturing and intent to distribute.

According to court papers, witnesses say Bales was with Barton and her boyfriend at the Shepherd Mountain Inn just before she ended up in the hospital.

Court papers say Barton's boyfriend told authorities Bales injected Barton's left hand with heroin.

In court on Wednesday as they wrangled over bond reduction issues, prosecutors argued underlying allegations of death should be enough to keep bales in jail.

The judge did not reduce bond from $75,000, but instead added he should be electronically shackled if released. And the judge said Bales must report to the sheriff's department once a week.

Meanwhile, as Barton's parents insist there's more to the case, everything seems to rest on toxicology and autopsy results that have get to come back.

Vanna Barton's father says he's very anxious to get those results and find out more about exactly what happened to his daughter.

The Ironton chief of police says Barton's car was missing after she ended up in the hospital before her death.

According to Barton's father, he found it in the hands of Justin Bales.

Van Barton believes Bales and others know more about how Vanna really died.

"Vanna needs justice," said Barton. "And, all of us that loved her need to find out what really happened to her. I know my daughter, and she did not do this to herself. And, it's starting to come out that she did not do this to herself."

Bales is due back in court on September 25.

Meanwhile toxicology results are expected to come back in a few weeks.
