Woman killed in head on crash in Wayne County, Illinois

WAYNE COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

A southern Illinois woman was killed in a crash Saturday morning in Wayne County, Illinois.

The crash happened shortly after 8:40 Saturday morning on Illinois Route 15.

According to the preliminary investigation by state police, the driver of a 1996 Chevrolet S-10, Christine E. Rhodes, 40, of Albion, Illinois was westbound on Illinois Route 15 at the Little Wabash Bridge, when for unknown reasons her truck crossed the center line.

Her truck continued and struck head on an eastbound 2000 Western Star Tank Truck, driven by Chalen K. Carter, 54, of Fairfield, Illinois.

Chalen K. Carter was taken by EMS to Fairfield Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries received in the crash.

Christine E. Rhodes was transported by Air-Evac to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana for treatment of major injuries sustained in the crash, where she later died.                                                                                                                                                              
An Accident Reconstruction Officer has been assigned to assist with the investigation.
