PERRYVILLE, MO (KFVS) -
Senator Claire McCaskill will be in southeast Missouri Monday campaigning for veterans' votes.
McCaskill will be in Festus at 1:15 p.m., the Perryville Community Center in Perryville at 3:15 p.m. and the VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau at 4:45 p.m.
McCaskill is running against Republican nominee Todd Akin for U.S. Senate.
Akin released a statement
following a TV interview where he said the bodies of "legitimate rape"
victims shut down to prevent pregnancy.
Akin backtracked releasing a statement Sunday. "In reviewing my off-the-cuff remarks, it's clear that I misspoke in
this interview, and it does not reflect the deep empathy I hold for the
thousands of women who are raped and abused every year," Akin said
Sunday. "Those who perpetrate these crimes are the lowest of the low in
our society, and their victims will have no stronger advocate in the
Senate to help ensure they have the justice they deserve."
McCaskill released this statement on her Twitter account Sunday. "As a woman & former prosecutor who handled 100s of rape cases,I'm stunned by Rep Akin's comments about victims this AM"
McCaskill is a found member of the Senate Veterans Jobs Caucus.
