EAST PRAIRIE, MO (KFVS) -
An East Prairie couple in their 70s jumped out of a window to escape, when their house caught on fire.
Judy Lewis said her brother, Willie-Jo Davidson, and his wife, Shirley, made it out of their East Prairie home just in home time.
She said the fire started around 3 am Wednesday morning.
A nephew was staying with the couple a heard a crackling noise. He realized the house was on fire.
They jumped out of a window to escape the flames.
Willie-Jo suffered third-degree burns, while Shirley suffered cuts from the window.
Lewis said the home is destroyed, and the Davidson's lost everything.
"Anything anybody can give, to help them out, we'd be grateful like I said they lost everything, and we really need, we really need help," said Lewis.
She said the couple doesn't know where they're going to go from here.
"They've cried all day, they don't know if they're going to build back, they just don't know what they're going to do right now they just don't know, I think in a state of shock", said Lewis.
East Prairie Fire Chief Kyle Hutcheson said the cause of the fire is under investigation. He said they don't consider it suspicious.
He said it took about 6 hours to put out the fire, because it was difficult to get to some of the hotspots inside the home.
