NEW MADRID COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

Steel Workers Union tells Heartland News that they reached a "tentative agreement" Friday night at 11 p.m. with Noranda Aluminum.

This means they are still working until Friday, September 7 when they will vote on the deal.

Noranda officials say in a press release that, the extension, which expires on September 7, is needed to allow local USW leadership to bring Noranda's proposal for a new agreement to a vote by local union membership.

The original deadline for an agreement between the United Steel Worker's Union and Noranda Aluminum was to expire Friday at midnight.

Noranda employs more than 940 full time workers.
