BUTLER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -
Poplar Bluff police are now saying an "attempted child abduction" is all a misunderstanding.
Police originally said that shortly after noon on Friday, a white van with a male Hispanic driver approached three girls on Thomas Street.
According to Jeff Rolland, Deputy Chief of Police, Poplar
Bluff, the people in the van told police they were driving through
the neighborhood looking at houses. In this particular driveway a car was
backing out. People in the van waved, motioning the car to go ahead and
back out. The mom misunderstood, thought the person in the van was waving
for the kids in the yard to get in the van.
Police say part two of the explanation is that the person in the van is signed
up for KFVS news alerts through facebook. She got the news alert about the attempted
abduction and realized hers was the van in question. She went and told
police, her van matches up with the description given. Police are confident the
story is legitimate.
