BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

LSU beat an undermanned North Texas team 41-14 in Tiger Stadium, but the game at times was very sloppy. The Tigers committed ten penalties and one turnover in the Red Zone. This week Les Miles wants the team to focus on improving in all phases.

Saturday night LSU will need Sam Montgomery to step up when the Tigers face a very good passing attack. Montgomery did not start and was uncharacteristically quiet against North Texas, but with the injury to starting right tackle Ben Riva, Huskies beware, Sam is ready for a break out game.

This past weekend against San Diego State, quarterback Keith Price threw for 222 yards and one touchdown, completing 22 out his 25 passes.

Coach Miles on Tuesday talked about the Husky offense. "I like their quarterback. Keith Price is a very good passer. He threw for 33 touchdowns a year ago." As for his performance against San Diego State, Miles went on to say, " In that game nine players caught balls. Their tight end had nine receptions, and was their leading receiver."

Washington will rely more on Price more after losing starting running back Jesse Callier to a season ending knee injury. His replacement, Bishop Sankey had 22 carries for 66 yards and a touchdown against San Diego State.

Washington's defense held the Aztecs to 327 total yards, giving up 199 rushing and 128 passing yards, adding four sacks and three turnovers.

Miles likes the way Washington's defense looks, saying, "Their defense is playing extremely wall. Their secondary is a talented group, and they can all cover. They have a lot of speed on the field. On special teams they have a true freshman punter and snapper that both played well in their opener. Washington is much improved and a very strong opponent. We will have to play well. This is a great week for us to improve. Washington is very capable."

"Certainly they move the ball around. They have a variety of rushing attacks. They can hand the ball in the I(formation). They can hand the ball in one-back. They have play actions from all of those. I think they have a great scheme. I think they understand it and they are playing very well."

With that said, LSU's powerful rushing attack will be a huge challenge for the Huskies, after giving up 199 yards to San Diego State.

Other LSU Notes:

Miles was very happy with Zach Mettenberger's debut as a starter in Tiger Stadium. The head coach thought he did a really good job at"running the game plan and managing the situations on the field."

Spencer Ware is "getting over the final pieces of an injury" and Miles hopes to get both Ware and Jeremy Hill playing time soon.

Miles on injuries to Alex Hurst and Craig Loston: "I think they probably played as weak as they will ever play. I think that they will get better. I think that they will be on the field in this game, and other which we need to play well and win. I really have less concern about their injury, and just need them to settle down and play."

On LB Deion Jones: "Deion is a very bright guy. He is really working to play well. He is very talented physically, but it takes a guy who wants to learn and wants to be an ambitious learner for him to play well. He is doing that. Like other first-time starters there are voids in his play that we have to address as coaches, and get him to play best. But his start is certainly very strong."
