KENNETT, MO (KFVS) -
A Kennett man is accused of burning his wife with hot grease.
Police identify the suspect as 40-year-old Stevie Anthony of Kennett.
Police reportedly rushed to Anthony's home and found his wife, Cathy, covered with oil.
Investigators say she had blisters covering her face, back, and neck.
The victim says she was making tea in her kitchen when her husband picked up a Fry Daddy cooker and threw it at her.
"He had been drinking and he's not himself when he drinks," said Cathy Anthony. "He's not a bad person. He has a very good heart he just needs help. When people go out and drink, don't think the worst of them they just need prayer and help and love."
Doctors treated her for burns.
"It could have been a lot worse," said Cathy. "I just want to say thank you to everybody that helped me."
Cathy Anthony says if her husband is watching behind bars, she wants him to know she loves him and she's standing by him.
She says Stevie Anthony had been under extreme stress.
She says she ran outside while her daughters and neighbors tried to help her and first responders arrived.
Stevie Anthony ran to another home. Police later arrested Anthony as he fled from that home.
"Don't get me wrong, I love him. I've been through a lot with him," said Cathy. "I think sometimes this is what God does to wake us up and get us to take care of ourselves."
Cathy Anthony says she is thankful the grease didn't scar her face.
"It's all God," said Cathy. "I'm blessed."
According to court papers, Stevie Anthony has been in trouble for assaulting his wife three other times.
However, the family and neighbors say Stevie Anthony often reaches out to help others and they feel he just needs some help.
"He tried to call and tell me he loved me and he's sorry," said Cathy.
Stevie Anthony is due back in court October 2nd.
