POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) -
A Poplar Bluff school bus driver was arrested on an outstanding warrant after being pulled over for speeding.
Bobby Joe Tippit, 33, is being held at the Tri-County Justice Detention Center in Ullin, Illinois on a warrant for failure to appear for a paraphernalia charge. The warrant was from DuPage County in northern Illinois near Chicago.
Poplar Bluff Schools Superintendent Chris Hon says the driver was driving the Poplar Bluff soccer team to play a game in Anna-Jonesboro Friday when the driver was pulled over in Illinois for going 10 miles over the posted speed limit of 65.
When police ran the Tippit's name, they found a warrant from the early 2000s for a paraphernalia charge.
The officer took Tippit into custody.
Anna-Jonesboro sent a bus to pick up the Poplar Bluff players.
Poplar Bluff sent another driver to get the bus.
Hon says every bus driver must pass a drug test, the driver permit test, and background check which Tippit did.
"We were not aware of an outstanding warrant for this person coming from their background check," Hon said.
Hon says the violations are grounds for immediate termination.
