LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Perfect Meatloaf pan claims it can make the perfect meatloaf and so much more all while keeping the grease and fat away from your dinner. But does it really work? I launched a brand new season of Try It Before You Buy It by testing it.
The Perfect Meatloaf comes with a cooking pan that looks like a bread pan. It also has a separate aerator tray that is non-stick and promises to keep your meatloaf above the grease, while letting hot air from the oven circulate around the meat, cooking it to tender perfection. It also comes with a recipe booklet with several different meatloaf recipes. I chose the standard meatloaf recipe for my test but added a few extra touches of my own. Then I baked the meatloaf for a little more than an hour, according to the directions.
The first test was to see if indeed the non-stick aerator tray allowed for the easy removal of the meatloaf onto a serving plate without it crumbling. The Perfect Meatloaf passed that first test. The meat slid right off the tray and onto an awaiting plate. The grease drained nicely through the holes into the bottom of the pan.
The second part of the test was to see if the Perfect Meatloaf sufficiently cooked the meat all the way through. After cutting into it, it was clear that it does allow the 'flow-through' air cooking to fully cook the meatloaf in just over an hour!
What about cleanup? With the non-stick surface on both the aerator tray and baking pan, cleanup was a breeze. I was able to just rinse out the leftover fat and grease and easily clean the entire set in under five minutes.
The only drawback I could find was with the aerator tray, and it wasn't a performance flaw. You have to be careful to not try to pick the whole thing up by the aerator pan handles. I accidentally did that when trying to move the product to the oven. If you're not paying attention to that, you could end up with a real mess on your hands.
Overall, I think the Perfect Meatloaf pan set is a good buy. We purchased it for $7.50 on the clearance rack at Walgreens. It's a reasonably priced product that will help you make the perfect meatloaf.
