Miners beat Freedom in Frontier League Championship Series - KFVS12 News & Weather Cape Girardeau, Carbondale, Poplar Bluff

The Southern Illinois Miners defeated the Florence Freedom 5-3 Wednesday in round one of the best of 5 Frontier League Championship series.

The Miners got homers from Chris Anderson and Cannon Lester in the 3rd inning to take a 3-1 lead.

After Florence tied it at 3, the Miners regained the lead in the top of the 7th inning when Jason Ganek scored from third base with two outs on a  dropped ball by the Florence 2nd baseman.

The two teams will play game two Thursday in Florence before the series moves back to Marion on Saturday.
