CLARKTON, MO (KFVS) -

Three soldiers were honored in Clarkton on Saturday after spending a year overseas.

Nearly one-thousand people came and showed support for the returning soldiers from the 1137th Military Police Company of the Missouri National Guard.

Gary Burchell and his son Mitchell Burchell and Glenn Redden, all of Clarkton, spent a year in Qatar with the 1137th.

They say support from here at home helped them while overseas.

"It's bad to be away from home, but it's good to know someone's behind you while you're doing your job," said Spc. Glenn Redden.

"It's a good feeling just because like whenever you fell alone," said Spc. Mitchell Burchell. "I got a couple of care packages when I needed them. You don't really feel as bad."

A parade was held in their honor on Main Street and festivities followed afterwards with food, a ceremony for the soldiers and music.

The soldiers also were even given each a flag that was recently flown in Jefferson City.

The three men came home with more than 400 others in their company last month.

Everything for the parade and activities afterwards including money for supplies, food and music was all donated from area businesses and residents.
