The Wilderness SAR
Operations Course is designed for volunteers to come out to General
Watkins Recreation Park south of to become more knowledgeable about
how to search for missing people.
Saturday nearly 30
people showed up for the training.
It was sponsored by the
Scott County Sheriff's Department. There
were volunteers from Cape Girardeau, Poplar Bluff, Scott County and southern
Illinois. They all came out to learn the proper ways of the tactics in
searching and field training, day or night.
It's a vital tool for
the Sheriff's Department because they are usually busy with gathering
information about who is missing and gathering clues.
Authorities say time is always a factor
and the training is a vital part of helping to find a missing person.
The SAR Operations
course was a classroom learning course in the morning.
After lunch, the
volunteers went to the field and had search training into the night. They
will be back out tomorrow for a mock search exercise and debriefing.
