CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has notified the SIU Department of Public Safety about a campus threat received in the mail.

According to DPS, the written threat was received through the U.S. Postal Service.

University administration and DPS say they take any threat seriously and have protocols and plans in place to respond to campus safety concerns.

Authorities say there is no reason to believe the threat is credible at this time.

According to DPS, the university has an established response plan and conducts training to respond to threats against campus safety.

Administration is saying if anyone on campus sees something, to say something.

If anybody observes suspicious behavior, report the information to the SIU Department of Public Safety at (618) 453-3771 or to the FBI Office in Marion, Illinois office at (618) 997-6847.
