A fugitive from Iowa was captured Wednesday after crashing a vehicle in New Madrid County, Missouri.
Troopers say Steven L. Adcock was arrested on Iowa warrants for escape from the Fort Madison State Penitentiary, felony larceny, and felony resisting arrest.
Adcock was charged in Missouri with felony tampering with a motor vehicle, felony resisting arrest by fleeing, and numerous traffic violations. He was being held in the Stoddard County Detention Center.
Adcock, 42, of Letts, Iowa was serving a 16-year prison sentence at Fort Madison State Penitentiary for 3rd degree burglary, 2nd degree theft, eluding authorities, and drug possession. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the vehicle Adcock was driving was reported stolen from Waverly, Missouri.
The incident began around 9:35 a.m. on Wednesday in Stoddard County as a Missouri state trooper was conducting radar checks on Highway 153. While doing these checks, the trooper reportedly saw a vehicle speeding.
The trooper pulled in behind the white, southbound passenger vehicle and began following it.
The vehicle began traveling at a high-rate-of-speed and the trooper attempted to make a traffic stop. The driver failed to yield and a 10-12-mile pursuit ensued.
The pursuit ended when the driver lost control and crashed the vehicle near Parma in New Madrid County. The driver was taken into custody without further incident
