CHICAGO (AP) - A second suburban Chicago man has been charged in the theft of 2 checks totaling more than $50,000 from President Barack Obama's campaign headquarters.
A judge on Saturday set bail at $100,000 for Jessie Adams of Joliet.
Authorities say the checks were made out to legitimate businesses. Adams is accused of instructing the other suspect and a third still at large to open bank accounts under the names of the businesses so they could deposit the checks. He is charged with organizing a financial criminal enterprise.
Cook County prosecutors announced Friday that Willard Elam of Dolton had been charged with continuing a financial crimes enterprise. His bail was set at $75,000.
The Chicago Tribune reports (http://trib.in/RJ7PIR ) the scheme was uncovered when the companies complained they had not been paid.
