TRIGG COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -
Part of Interstate 24 in Trigg County, Kentucky will be shut down Monday morning following a deadly crash that killed two North Carolina residents.
Joseph A. Robinson 34, of Wendell, N.C. and Larry D. Artis 55, of Wilson, N.C., were ejected from a semi that crashed and pronounced dead on the scene by the Trigg County coroner.
The semi was traveling west on I-24 when for some reason if ran off the right shoulder, hit several trees before coming to a final rest.
It is unknown at this time which occupant was operating the semi and if they were wearing seatbelts.
The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. Sunday near the 62 mile marker in the westbound lanes.
Kentucky State Police and the Division of Vehicle Enforcement said due to the severity of the crash they would need to reconstruct it in daylight.
Monday morning, debris from the semi involved in the crash was still spread throughout the area.
KYTC and KSP personnel are working to move some cattle in a field near the crash site. There is concern that the cattle may make their way through a hole in the fence and onto I-24. The landowner has been contacted and arrangements are being made to move the cows so the crash site can be cleared and the fence repaired.
Westbound I-24 near the 62 mile marker is likely to remain restricted until 5:30 p.m., according to KYTC.
People driving in the area are urged to use caution.
