Southeast Missouri Chapter Red Cross volunteers have returned home from deployment with Hurricane Isaac.
The Red Cross used 115 emergency vehicles to feed thousands of families a day. Officials estimate they served more than 470,000 meals to date.
In total, the Red Cross deployed more than 2,000 volunteers. Some are still in the affected areas and could be there up to one year.
Margaret Makins says this was her first deployment and its an experience that she plans on learning from. Makins was one of seven volunteers from the Southeast Missouri chapter.

Experts say the officer who killed a Long Island college student and a home invasion suspect on Friday was confronted with a split-second choice.
