MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

The McCracken County Sheriff's Department says a 17-year-old driver of a Hummer H-2 involved in a deadly crash on Blandville Road has been charged.

McCracken County Sheriff's detectives got a court order Tuesday to arrest the teen for the following charges: murder, first degree assault, first degree wanton endangerment, first degree criminal mischief, operating a motor vehicle under the influence and no operator's license.

Ezra Moffett, Jr, 34, died in the crash.

According to the sheriff's department, the assault charges come from injuries suffered by a 17-year-old passenger in the Hummer. The wanton endangerment charges are from another vehicle driving on Blandville Road that morning that was almost hit head-on immediately before the crash that killed Moffett. They say substantial property damage and loss were the basis for the criminal mischief charge.

Detectives got evidence at the scene and from the suspect that was analyzed by the Kentucky State Police Crime lab and the state's Accident Reconstruction Unit. In addition to physical evidence, detectives say several witnesses were interviewed that witnessed either the crash or events that led up to the crash.

The McCracken County and Commonwealth Attorney's Offices, Coroner's Office, as well as the Kentucky State Police helped in the investigation.

The sheriff's department says the teen was arrested at 2:10 p.m. at the sheriff's department and later taken to an area juvenile detention center awaiting further juvenile proceedings.
