Does it Work Wednesday: Boom Cube

Posted: Updated:

Blast the sound with a 2x2 speaker called the Boom Cube, but Does it Work?

Vicki Lawson heads up the Boys and Girls Club of Cape Girardeau where she and coworker Chris Dzurick often play music during afterschool programs for the kids.

"iPods and iPhones often don't blast music like the kids enjoy and especially in a large group of kids. Something like this would be much handier if it's really that loud because it is so portable."

You can snap the speaker to almost anything, so long as you keep it charged up ahead of time on your computer. We found that out the hard way when we didn't let the Boom Cube initially charge for up to eight hours, per the directions. If you don't do this, you'll get sound that cuts out and is spotty.

Once we got a full charge, we still weren't happy with the distorted sound from our iPhone on full blast. The kids agreed. They say it didn't live up to its promise either, but several would use it when they were alone studying. It wasn't impressive in a large group.

"I think it's ok, but I'm not loving it," they agreed.

So, at eleven bucks it may not be the most square deal around, but the Boom Cube blasts a C minus on this Does it Work test.
