CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

A new poll shows most Illinoisans think their state government is corrupt.

The poll, conducted earlier this month by SIU's Paul Simon Public Policy Institute surveyed 1,261 registered Illinois voters across the state and found 58 percent believe their state is more corrupt than others.

Of those polled, 36.6 percent said Illinois is equally as corrupt as other states. Only 2.1 percent said they think Illinois is less corrupt.

The results of the poll were presented Thursday at a symposium in Chicago called "What's in the Water, Illinois?"

The event focused on ethics and political reform in the state.
