CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

It's a chance for you to clean out the medicine cabinet and safely get rid of unwanted prescription drugs.

Both local and state law enforcement agencies across the Heartland are working together to remove potentially dangerous medications from homes during "Drug Take Back" day.

According to the DEA, last October, Americans  turned in 188 tons of prescription drugs at more than 53 hundred sites across the country.

The Cape Girardeau and Jackson Police Departments will be among law enforcement agencies accepting medications from 10 to 2 on Saturday, September 29.

Call your local sheriff or police department or state police to find out where you can dispose of unwanted medicines.
