JEFFERSON CITY, MO (KFVS) -

Six communities in Missouri have received $1.4 million worth of grants from the Missouri Department of Economic Development.

The grants will be used for community facilities projects under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.

Madison County has been approved for $47,350 CDBG on behalf of the Madison County Health Department, which has been found to be lacking in access under the Americans with Disabilities Act. The grant will be utilized for building improvements that will result in greater accessibility throughout the facility.

The city of Potosi has also been approved for a $148,494 grant on behalf of the Sayers Senior Center. The CDBG will be utilized for various improvements to the center, which provides industrious meals, health screenings, educational programs and social services to the area's seniors. The project will help to update the building to make it more efficient and more accessible.

Other communities awarded grants include: St. Clair County, Pulaski County and the cities of Maitland and Houston.

The CDBG program, administered by the Missouri Department of Economic Development, provides grants and loan funds to cities with a population under 50,000 and counties under 200,000 to assist in a variety of public works and economic development projects.
