Posted: Updated:
BUTLER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

A Poplar Bluff man has serious injuries and faces charges following a car crash early Saturday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 41-year-old Jerry Hewes was driving westbound on Highway PP 15 miles west of Poplar Bluff.

Troopers say at 4:18 a.m. Hewes' Mitsubishi passenger car ran off the roadway, overturned and caught fire. Hewes was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.

No word on what caused the car to veer off the road, but troopers believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Hewes was taken to a Poplar Bluff hospital with serious injuries. He is charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI), driving while revoked, and careless and imprudent driving.
