CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS) -
According to Charleston, Mo. DPS, the southbound lanes of Interstate 57, starting at mile marker 11, were closed due to a semi vs. car crash early Saturday morning.
Missouri State Patrol said one southbound lane opened up around 1:30 p.m., and both southbound lanes opened up later in the afternoon.
DPS says traffic had been routed through Charleston, Missouri.
According to MoDOT, the crash involved an overturned tractor trailer.
Troopers with the Missouri Highway Patrol say the crash involving the tractor trailer and a car happened around 4:45 a.m. Saturday at the 11.6 mile marker in Mississippi County.
According to the crash report, a semi driven by Vincent L. Walker, 39, of Chicago hit the back of a Nissan driver by Willa D. Jones, 66, of Bardwell, Kentucky.
Crash investigators say this caused the car to travel off the right side of the road and go into a ditch. The semi went off the right side of the road and overturned onto its left side.
The driver of the semi received serious injuries and was flown by air ambulance to a Cape Girardeau hospital.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, according to troopers.
No word on when the southbound lanes of I-57 will open back up to traffic.
