HAYTI, MO (KFVS) -

The community of Hayti came together Saturday to celebrate one of its own.

It was for a 101-year-old World War Two veteran who many say lived life to the fullest.

Hundreds in the Hatyi community gathered to celebrate the life of Clarence Wade.

"It's just not the name, it's the work he put in. His name, his work, his life," said William Rap Brown, a family friend.

His life consisted of many things. Some remember him for serving under General Patton and storming the beaches of Normandy.

"He said for about three days he was stepping over bodies," said Talmadge West, a family friend. "And just to think of that, to keep that in your memory. A lot of soldiers couldn't get over that."

Others remember him for what he did for the community.

"He didn't care who you were, he would help you in any way that he could," said Gynett Johnson, a family friend. "And try to bring together the community as one."

But his veteran of post office and sheriff's department proudest accomplishment is 66 years of marriage to his wife Dorothy.
