Crews find missing kayaker

Posted: Updated:

WHITE COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Conservation officials found the body of a missing kayaker in White County, Illinois Tuesday morning.  Officers say they broke-loose the logs on the little Wabash River and recovered 55-year-old Jerry Nobles' body.

The DNR says the call came at about 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon after they say one man was separated from his kayaking group.

The Illinois Conservation Police say the missing man's empty kayak was located and pulled from the Little Wabash River, but that the man himself has not yet been found.

Nobles went missing Saturday when his kayak capsized.  On Sunday, search and rescue sonar equipment detected something under a log jam, that they believed to be Nobles. But due to bad river conditions, crews were unable to locate nobles until Tuesday morning.

His body has been turned over to the White County coroner awaiting an autopsy.

Tuesday night, a candlelight vigil was held in the Mount Vernon, Illinois man's honor.
