CARRIER MILLS, IL (KFVS) -
Not every little boy grows up dreaming of becoming a firefighter. But for 9-year-old Rielly Ward his dream is fast becoming a reality.
Rielly's dad Darren saw a 1978 pumper fire truck sitting in a salvage yard waiting to be scraped out. So instead of letting it get turned into a heap of junk, he bought and drove it home for his son.
"It's awesome having my own fire truck because I get to play on it every day," said Rielly Ward. "I've always wanted to be a firefighter because I think it's awesome to be able to put out fires. And to save peoples lives."
But, Rielly says a number of his classmate didn't believe him when the told them he had a real life-size fire truck to play with.
So a family friend Steven Green, a freelance photographer came over and took some pictures of Rielly behind the wheel and running the lights.
After that the local newspaper picked up the story and Rielly took a copy of it to show his classmates that he was telling the truth.
"I can't wait until I'm old enough to drive out on the roads," Rielly said.
But, until then Rielly, his sister Marsi and their friend Drew will get to spend many days putting out their own fires, a top their very own fire truck.
