CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -
Friday kicks off a weekend of competition for the 2012 fall games of the Missouri Special Olympics.
More than 1,200 athletes and coaches will travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo. this weekend to compete in bocce, golf, flag football, softball and tennis.
Penny Williams with the Cape Girardeau Park and Recreation Department says the response for volunteers has been overwhelming.
Williams asks those who want to be a part of the events to fill up the Show-Me Center for Friday's opening ceremony at 7 p.m.
Williams said the athletes travel from around the state and sometimes not all of their friends and family can make it.
