EAST PRAIRIE, MO (KFVS) -
Drivers in Mississippi County have to share the road and it has some people concerned.
Residents say they're seeing more and more ATVs on county roads and some are worried about the possibility of accidents.
People that are concerned with safety of these four wheelers and others who say they feel very safe on them.
But there is something that makes Mississippi County and other Heartland counties unique.
Randy Allstun lives off a county road in Mississippi County where it is legal to ride four wheelers with a permit.
But Allston says some riders don't follow the law.
"The ATV traffic has increased exponentially," said Allstun. "Kids that are under 16 should not be operating them, and there are. If the ATV is designed for one passenger you're not supposed to have more than that."
But riders say they follow the law and support the permit policy for a number of reasons.
Besides saving on gas, Brenda Ray says she feels very safe in her golf cart with this reflector and the flag that hangs off the back.
"Well I only have to use about $15-20 dollars a week in gas," said Ray. "We have to have a caution sign. We have to have the orange flag. People here a lot of us do ride them so people have learned to accept them on the road."
Mississippi County Presiding Commissioner Carlin Bennett says the commission is looking into this issue.
He says it's too early to say what the commission will do.

A fire in Oran destroyed a 2-story house on Tuesday morning. According to the Oran Fire Department, it happened at 4:05 a.m. at 907 highway W, which is right in the middle of town. Firefighters

The tornado, with winds up to 200 mph, cut a 20-mile stretch as wide as two miles through the Oklahoma City metro area. The medical examiner's office reported 24 people died, including nine children.
