CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -
A Murphysboro, Illinois woman is being considered really lucky Thursday morning. She narrowly missed being hit be a falling tree Wednesday evening.
She wanted to get away from the severe weather in her hometown, so she came to Cape Girardeau to visit someone.
At first, she was in a driveway in the 2000 block of Broadway in her vehicle.
Then, when she got out, a tree came crashing down on top of it and several other vehicles.
"We were going to wait a second to come in, but we said okay we're going to try it," said Tonya Brandon of Murphysboro. "So, we went in and as soon as we did we looked out the window and the tree up there was just pushing around and flew to the side and crashed on all of those (vehicles)."
Brandon says they would have been sitting in one of the smashed vehicles.
"Things you can replace, people you can't," said Brandon. "That's what matters."
Brandon is staying with family in Cape Girardeau for the time being.
She is here with her teenage daughter and her dog. All are said to be doing just fine
Also, there was a huge bee hive found inside the fallen tree by her brother.
Brandon's brother said the hive is at least 5 foot, from what he could see inside the tree.
