KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
Kansas City police need the public's held to find the suspect who attempted to rob two Phillips 66 stores and robbed a Conoco Phillips in less than one hour, all while using a cane.
Friday about 4:19 p.m., a man entered the Phillips 66 store in the 4400 block of Antioch Road. The suspect selected an item, purchased it, and left the store. A few moments later, the suspect re-entered the store, selected an item and put money on the counter for his purchase. When the employee opened the cash drawer, the suspect pointed his cane at her demanding money. When the employee did not comply, he jabbed her with the cane. Police said, with some quick thinking, the employee shut the cash drawer and retreated to the office for safety. The man then jumped up on the counter and tried to open the register. When he was unsuccessful, the suspect then ran in an unknown direction.
Police have surveillance video from the store.
Within minutes, it is believed the same suspect unsuccessfully attempted to rob a second Phillips 66 store in North Kansas City.
At 5:03 p.m., the same suspect entered the Conoco Phillips gas station located in the 2500 block of Guinotte. The suspect, again used his cane to obtain an undetermined amount of money from the employee before running from the store.
The suspect is described as a black man between 55 and 60 years old. He is approximately 5'9" to 6' tall, 200 to 220 pounds, wearing a green leather baseball cap, a dark green jacket, a light green shirt, blue jeans, armed with a dark-colored cane. The suspect was seen leaving the scenes in a red/maroon van with a black stripe, possibly a Chevy Venture with Missouri license plates. The vehicle was seen to be missing the rear passenger side hubcap.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
