More than a dozen people were taken to the hospital after a crash involving a church van and car Sunday afternoon in Scott County.
It happened around 1:10 p.m. Sunday at the Interstate 55 southbound exit ramp 80 and MO 77 intersection in Scott County.
According to Trooper Kendall Hampton, a Honda Civic was going westbound on MO 77 and the church van was on the exit 80 ramp turning east onto MO 77. The trooper says the van turned in into the path of the car.
Police say eleven juveniles from Cape Girardeau that were inside the van were taken by private vehicles to a Cape Girardeau hospital with minor injuries.
The man from Sikeston and woman from Benton in the car were taken to a Cape Girardeau hospital by North Scott County Ambulance.
The couple in the car had moderate injuries, according to police. Two airbags were deployed in the gray passenger car.
The group in the van were with the Salvation Army Church in Cape Girardeau, according to Salvation Army Director Maj. Ben Stillwell.
Maj. Stillwell says the church group was on their way to Beggs Family Farm when the crash happened.
No word if any citations were issued.
Scott County sheriff's deputies were at the scene assisting with traffic, as well as the Missouri Highway Patrol and several fire department crews.
